Not because I was given a gift
Therefore nor for their generosity
but their strength
their dogged persistence.

That's why I am here today.

I don't think that can be measured
in terms of good or bad
of right or wrong
it just is.

Thus I am not thankful
nor angry
instead I recognize their courage
and their selfishness
a naive ignorance
about what the future holds
and what it does not.

It does not guarantee
I cannot guarantee
by no means
whatsoever.

Because I was not given a gift
but an incredibly generous offer
I stubbornly couldn't refuse.
